Floriade

In 2013 Floriade will showcase how innovation can inspire a nation with Canberra's 100th birthday providing a celebratory feeling in the city for the entire year.

Through the theme Innovation-inspiration for the nation, Floriade 2013 will pay tribute to the passion and creativity behind some of the capital's greatest national achievements, which are celebrated at our cultural institutions.

As homage to the last 100 years, the garden beds featuring a million blooms will be strongly linked to the nation's stories and treasures, with the geometry of Canberra's original plan by Walter Burley Griffin inspiring the overall design of Floriade 2013.

Across four weekends in October, SPIN is a celebration of Canberra's committment to, and love of, wheels: from trucks, cars, motorbikes, bicycles and skateboards, to toys, hoops and potters' wheels.

Watch out for SPIN Saturday, a day of car-inspired happenings in Fyshwick on October 19th. The SCOTT Australian 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships on 5-6 October, and the 2013 WEMBO World Solo 24 Mountain Bike Championships on 12-13 October take place at Mount Stromlo.

Other highlights include the National Trust ACT's Centenary of Canberra Vintage Car Rally, and The Canberra Pursuit; a piece by musician and artist Jon Rose.

Canberra Nara Candle Festival
