) XXXX GOLD BARRA NATIONALS
2 - 9 May 2010
XXXX Gold Barra Nationals
Try your luck against Australia's best barra fishermen and women.
The XXXX Gold Barra Nationals is one of the premier fishing tournaments on the Australian fishing calendar. Each year up to 45 teams come from all over Australia (and some from overseas as well) to compete in a week full of fun, mayhem and fantastic fishing on the Daly River, near Katherine in the Northern Territory. Prizes are awarded to champion anglers and teams from mixed, interstate and local categories. Points are accumulated by catching barramundi that are 40 centimetres or larger, the larger the fish the more points awarded. Anglers and teams with the most points at the end of the week are the winners.
Besides the great fishing, the XXXX Gold Barra Nationals is renowned for its fun and nightlife activities around the stage arena. There are raffles every night along with activities to keep competitors entertained, like 'no talent', 'iron man' and joke competitions every night. All teams are encouraged to have an active participation in the daily festivities.

) ADELAIDE RIVER SHOW
5 - 6 June 2010
Adelaide River Show
Join in the thrill of a rodeo, camp draft and rural show.
The Adelaide River Show, in the Adelaide River township south of Darwin, features a rodeo, polocrosse, gymkhana and camp draft as well as competitions in arts and crafts, flora art, cookery, photography, horticulture and agriculture, and farm produce in both adult and children sections.
The camp draft consists of 6 head of cattle in a ‘camp’, in which the competitor has to cut only 1 animal out. The competitor must the get the animal to the front of the camp. Once the competitor has the animal up front, they must block and turn the beast a few times to show the judges they have control of the animal. The rider then calls for the gates to be opened, the competitor is required to draft the animal in a figure 8 before guiding it through a gate, the camp draft is then complete. All this is done in less than 45 seconds.

) SKYCITY TRIPLE CROWN V8 SUPERCARS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
18 - 20 June 2010
SKYCITY Triple Crown V8 Supercars Championship Series
Come along and witness the battle of the V8 Supercars when they roar back to Darwin.
The Hidden Valley round of the Skycity Triple Crown, V8 Supercar Championship Series is one of the largest sporting events of the year in Darwin. Families flock to Hidden Valley to watch their heroes, Lowndes, Whincup, Tander, Winterbottom, Davison and Kelly race against one another on a fast, but picturesque course less than 10 kilometres from the city centre.
Mums, dads and children urge on these modern juggernauts as they charge bumper to bumper around the tight 2.9 kilometre track that winds between corporate boxes perched on hairpin bends and grassed public viewing areas on straights and corners. Screams and cheers mingle with the throaty high-powered roar that only V8 Supercars can deliver. It sounds like the whole world is here.

) DARWIN BEER CAN REGATTA
8 August 2010
Darwin Beer Can Regatta
A regatta like no other, with boats primarily built entirely from aluminum beer cans.
This annual family event is rapidly becoming a spectacle for all who line Mindil Beach and cheer on the home-made boats of cans and cartons, as they flounder and sink in the shallows.
The Darwin Beer Can Regatta started as an unusual by-product of the devastation caused to Darwin by Cyclone Tracy in 1974. A Darwin citizen, Lutz Frankenfeld, suggested a boat race with all the craft fabricated from beer cans in order to clear up the empties, and at the same time have a day of fun.
The inaugural beer can race in 1975 was an instant success, and has developed into a major event with boat entries ranging from 1 to 12 metres and some even with secret weaponry.
Entry is by donation, with proceeds going to projects of the combined Lions Clubs of Darwin.
